Last weekend I attended my first Randolph Street Market Festival and enjoyed the last of Chicago's shining late summer weather browsing the 300+ vendors' booths. One of my first to-dos upon moving to the Greater Chicagoland area was a quick online search for "festivals" and "markets" and alas found the monthly vintage and handmade treasure trove on West Randolph Street. Given that my world primarily revolves around what I am eating next, our first stop even before thumbing through the collections of vinyls and old band tees, was of course surveying the dining options. We settled on splitting a Chicken Schwarma Sandwich ($7) from Baba Pita, a vegetarian Roasted Pepper Goat Cheese Tamale ($4) from Dia De Los Tamales and our favorite, a crispy, flaky BBQ Pork Empanada ($3) from Empanadus. Selfishly, I am looking forward to some hopeful expansions to the food offerings as the market continues to grow and for their beer garden to return soon after construction. Regardless, perusing the seemingly endless collections of vintage costumes, handmade furniture and retro furs proved made for a beautiful Sunday well spent. If you haven't been, mark your calendars for their "Picks N Treats" market October 29 + 30 and I just may see you there.
