Volunteers with Fight2Feed at Cornerstone Community Outreach

Kam and I at Fight2Feed's mission at Cornerstone Community Outreach

On Sunday, my boyfriend's 12-year-old daughter Kam and I made our way to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach to volunteer with Fight2Feed. We learned about the opportunity to volunteer through Chicagogrammers but were excited to learn more about the organization and its mission upon our arrival. After a lighthearted afternoon making inspirational posters, serving dinner and boxing meals for delivery, Kam and I were already looking forward to our next chance to work with Fight2Feed.

Fight2Feed is a charitable organization based in Chicago that is on a mission to "knockout hunger one block at a time." The organization takes goods, produce and supplies donated from restaurants and distributors, coupled with the volunteer efforts of local Chefs, servers and team members, and turns them into enjoyable meals for those in need. On this particular Sunday, we got to work with Chef Mark Gaylord, the winner of December's lamb themed Culinary Fight Club (see below for more info. on CFC).

Every 4th Monday of the month Fight2Feed serves at the Coppin Community Center in Chicago and are always looking for volunteers or donors to assist their efforts. Click the link below to volunteer or donate.

You can also support Fight2Feed by attending the high-energy live cooking competition, Culinary Fight Club. CFC got its start in Chicago but has expanded this year to 17 cities nationwide. Each monthly competition has a new theme and new teams, ensuring no two experiences are alike. Competitors range from home cooks to executive chefs, each vying to create a winning dish that represents their take on the month's theme. 20% of the proceeds from each event go to supporting Fight2Feed's mission, so check out their schedule and book a ticket for an event near you.
